Sustainability competitive advantages There are two models of SCA. One is I/O model (Bain, 1956), and the other one is RBV (Barney, 1986c, 1988). The I/O model uses two way to get competitive advantage. One is provide a low price product and the other one is providing differentiated products. Researchers ( Wernerfelt, 1984; Barney, 1991) view the SCA as a result of a collection (resources, skills and routines controlled by the firm). They also believe that the unique resource and skills provide the superior profits. General environment General environment (stake holder, government, policy and so on) affect both I/O model and RBV. For example, the firms need to keep adequate performance to attract stakeholders which includes many people either inside the firm or outside the firm. If the firm’s strategy can fit the general environment well, it would get competitive advantage and even attain above-average return. 3.
